Eating Tips for a Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving

It’s the season of giving. Unfortunately, it’s also the season of gaining! Thanksgiving often revolves around the feast, but that doesn’t mean you have to feel like an over-stuffed turkey the next day. Here are some tips that we adapted from a celebrity personal trainer on how to watch your weight this Thursday.

If you are the cook:

  • Substitute whole milk or cream with evaporated skim milk
  • Use apple sauce and pureed prunes in baked goods
  • Make the stuffing with whole grain bread
  • Roast vegetables with only a little olive oil

If you are a guest:

  • Eat a regular breakfast
  • Drink a lot of water before the meal
  • Stick to light meat and skip (or go very easy on) the gravy
  • Make sure your plate is at least 1/3 vegetables
  • Save your dinner roll for last
  • Minimize high-calorie alcoholic beverages and fruity drinks
