Dr. Oz Recommends this Non-Invasive Procedure for Weight Loss

Reducing fat on our thighs has become a defining quest of the modern age, leaving many women looking for fool-proof ways to reduce stubborn fat deposits from their thighs, including diet deliveries, the Thigh-Master and liposuction.  Sometimes referred to as Cottage cheese thighs – decorated with bumps and lumps – cause many people to live through the summer wearing long pants and dresses to hide their flaws.

Kansas City Spa Zerona

Zerona is the only clinically-proven, non-invasive body slimming treatment available today. Imagine…in just two weeks you can look and feel better with shapelier, smoother thighs!

Here are some of the most commonly-asked
questions I receive about Zerona:

What parts of my body can Zerona work on?
Zerona works on many parts of the body—almost anywhere that persistent pockets of fat are present, such as:

  • Tummy
  • Flanks
  • Thighs
  • Upper arms
  • Back
  • Buttocks

Who should undergo Zerona treatment?
The beauty of Zerona is that, as a non-invasive low-level laser treatment, many types of people can safely undergo the procedure. Those with excessive amounts of weight to lose may not be ideal patients, but patients near their goal weight are.

How is the Zerona treatment conducted?
When you are lying under the laser (20 minutes on the front and 20 minutes on the back), it targets the fat cells, causing them to liquefy. This, in turn, causes your body to reabsorb the fat and flush it out of the body.  And unlike minimally-invasive or traditional liposuction, Zerona allows you to continue your daily activities without any interruption, so you can even do it on your lunch hour!

Is treatment with the Zerona laser painful?

No. Though the word laser may imply a strong heat, Zerona’s low-level laser is actually a cooling laser. You will not require an anesthetic for the treatment and there is no recovery time following Zerona.

How many sessions will I need?
Zerona patients undergo a series of treatments to target their fat cells. Most often, patients undergo six 40-minute sessions during a two-week period.

Kansas City Spa Zerona Dr. OzWhen will I experience the results of my Zerona treatment?
Most patients begin to see the results of the Zerona laser one week after the treatment. As long as a healthy diet and exercise are maintained, the results can be long-lasting.

An episode of the Dr. OZ show featured ways to get rid of fat in order to slim down and get ready in time for summer.  Because Zerona doesn’t destroy fat cells, and there’s no pain, swelling, bruising or downtime, the show knew Zerona was an excellent topic for Dr. Oz’s audience.

Your 5 Options for Sexy Summer Legs

Kansas City Spa Laser Hair RemovalSummer is almost here – and that means it’s time to get back to our high visibility hair removal routines. Skirts and shorts show off our legs but the downside is the maintenance. Who really enjoys shaving or waxing your ladies constantly?

If like a lot of other people you’re just coming out of hibernation, now is a great time to consider your options when it comes to keeping your suddenly visible areas smooth, bump free and swimsuit-ready.

We all know that keeping our bodies hairless in all the right places isn’t always easy, as most hair removal options have the potential for issues such as nicks, bumps, ingrown hairs and general discomfort.

Let’s take a look at some of the most popular removal options, and their pros and cons.

Kansas City Spa Laser Hair RemovalProfessional Waxing: Warm wax is applied to the area and removed in the opposite direction of the hair growth, pulling hairs out at the root. Waxing temporarily removes hair at the root for an average of around three weeks of smooth skin. But, waxing needs some regrowth in order to be effective, as the wax needs at least 1/4″ of stubble to adhere to. Treatments can be painful, as hair is being ripped out at the root and can also lead to ingrown hairs.

Kansas City Spa Laser Hair RemovalShaving: Shaving removes hair at the skin’s surface by cutting it off with a razor. And while it’s inexpensive, relatively painless, quick and easy, regrowth happens quickly, and since hair is cut off at the surface, the hair that grows back is visibly thicker. Nasty razor burns, nicks and cuts can happen, and regular shavers can also be prone to ingrown hairs.

Kansas City Spa Laser Hair RemovalDepilatory Creams: Hair removal creams use chemicals to weaken the hair so you can effectively wipe it away. Treatment can be done at home, and it removes hair slightly below the surface of the skin, so it promises slower and less coarse regrowth than shaving. However, chemicals in these products can irritate sensitive skin, particularly in more delicate areas. These creams are known for their funky odor and can also lead to ingrown hairs.

5-options-smooth-legs-electrolysisElectrolysis: This procedure uses a fine, needle-shaped electrode to apply an electrical current to the hair follicle. When improperly done, electrolysis can lead to scarring or skin discoloration. Treatments can be uncomfortable, and cause a “stinging” or “pricking” sensation. And permanent results require multiple sessions.

It essentially destroys the follicle, meaning it can achieve permanent removal. Typically, the hair in treated areas falls out within 2-3 weeks. This type of treatment is great for long -term hair removal in all areas, and it causes no damage to the dermis so the most sensitive skin can be treated.

While some patients experience a stinging sensation during the procedure, in the long run, many consider laser removal to be an investment that can pay off. It’s considered by many to be the most effective and cost-effective treatment considering how much one can spend over a lifetime with options such as waxing or electrolysis.

Afraid of Spiders…How about those Spider Veins on your Legs?

Kansas City Spa varicose-veins

If you’re suffering from varicose or spider veins, you’re not alone. In the United States alone, 80 million people have some occurrence of varicose veins. And with summer right around the corner, if you have them, NOW is the time to do something about them!

Varicose Veins and Spider Veins Are Not Just A Vanity Issue

varicose-veins-example2Most people think of varicose veins as a cosmetic concern, but they can lead to other, more serious problems. For example, when blood pools in the vein, it can clot. This can cause phlebitis, a superficial clot that can be painful, but usually not life threatening.

Spider veins are often associated with varicose veins, and can be an early indication of a problem. They appear just under the surface of the skin as a collection of broken capillaries and tiny blood vessels that are often visible on the face, legs or ankles with a web-like appearance.

Kansas City Spa varicose-veinsBut if a clot in a superficial (close to the skin) vein grows, it can move into a deep vein. People with superficial phlebitis have a 20 to 40 percent chance of having a deep vein clot at the same time. Such a clot, also known as deep vein thrombosis, can break loose and move through the bloodstream to the lung, where it can cause a sudden, potentially life-threatening blockage.

Before such problems can arise, clots can be identified through ultrasound and then treated, typically with blood thinners.

Varicose veins are also sometimes the first stage of a more serious, progressive condition. In some people, what starts as varicose veins may progress to swelling in the legs.

What factors put me at risk for varicose veins and spider veins?

Many factors increase a person’s chances of developing varicose or spider veins. These include:

  • Increasing age;
  • Obesity;
  • Medical history;
  • Lack of movement;
  • Hormonal changes;
  • Sun exposure;
  • Pregnancy.

Eliminating the Problem Before It Gets Worse

Treating varicose veins often begins with the use of compression stockings, which gently squeeze your legs to promote blood flow. In some cases, the stockings do the trick.

But some patients with small or medium-sized varicose veins may opt for sclerotherapy, a procedure in which your doctor injects a solution that irritates the vein lining, causing it to scar and close. After a few weeks, the treated veins will fade from view, though the treatment is sometimes repeated to achieve the desired cosmetic result.

Sclerotherapy is safe, painless and fast, with sessions that normally last only 15 to 30 minutes. There is also no downtime so you can go right back to your normal activities.

(Note: Ideally the patient who chooses sclerotherapy should be healthy and should be non-smokers. This procedure is not preformed on pregnant women.)
