Looking Good Generation-X!

Television ads have not just increased sales of prescription drugs but recent studies have shown an upward trend in cosmetic procedures as well. The unusual twist to the study is the Baby Boomers, who are the target market, aren’t the one’s taking advantage of these procedures. It’s the Generation-X adults between the ages of 31 and 45.

Surveys have indicated that as pressure increases to look young, more of the Generation-X bracket are investing in Botox™ injections, fillers, chemical peels and liposuction.

The onslaught of media advertising in addition to the fact that cosmetic surgeries and procedures no longer carry the stigma they once did, have also contributed to the increase, a recent poll conducted by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery showed.

Procedures have become safer and in many cases require little or no recuperating time and the changes can be subtle. For example Botox™ can be injected during a patient’s lunch hour and they can return to work looking nothing except well rested!

Why not call 913-327-7715 and schedule an appointment today with Midwest Medical Aesthetics to learn more about how they can help you look your very best.

Botox™ In Kansas? Sure But Who Invented It?

Well as you know I’ve been providing Botox™ treatments to my Kansas patients for some time now – everyone loves and I’m sure you’re aware of it but do you know who invented it or anything about it?

So I found this article today and thought I’d share it with you. It give you a little background on the inventor of Botox™ – a woman named Jean Carruthers. She’s from Canada but right now she’s in the Melia White House Hotel in the UK for the FACE conference where she’s going to be running a workshop and speak about the drug that has changed millions of people’s lives.

I’ve posted a quote from the article below and a link to the it too. It’s pretty good. Feel free to leave a comment below.

It is no surprise that the press are queuing up to meet the women who discovered that injections of botulinum type A could erase lines and wrinkles. Since that discovery in 1987 the treatment has become a billion dollar global phenomenon and the word ‘botox’ has become a household name. But far from being arrogant about her role in the birth of Botox®, Dr Carruthers is matter of fact when she tells the now legendary story of how it came about.

Popularity of Cosmetic Procedures for Men Continues to Increase

To all of our male readers out there who are considering cosmetic surgery, you are not alone. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ 2010 surgery statistics, the number of cosmetic surgeries performed on men has increased substantially since 2009. Here is an excerpt from a recent PR Web article reporting on the findings . . .

The top surgical procedures for men were nose reshaping, eyelid surgery and liposuction. In terms of minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures, Botulinum Toxin Type A (i.e., Botox™ and Dysport) took fist place, with 337,000 procedures performed on men in 2010 alone.

Cosmetic surgeons must have the experience and skill to be able to accommodate beard growth, skin thickness and body type. These are the factors that are crucial to meeting the goals of male patients while achieving results that look natural and youthful with minimal discomfort and required down time.

If you are a male in the Kansas City who would like to learn more about hair transplant, skin tightening, liposuction or another non-invasive cosmetic procedure, contact Midwest Medical Aesthetics today at 913.327.7175 with your questions or come by the center for a complimentary consultation at 11213 Nall Avenue, Suite 140 in Leawood, Kansas.

Something That Will Light Up Your Holiday!

I don’t know if you’ve put up your Christmas Tree yet, or even if you bother to have one. What I do know is that it’s a Special time of Year and a chance to share the gift of giving.

I’d like to share a couple of Christmas traditions with you this holiday season.  The first is a link to the BEST CHRISTMAS LIGHT DISPLAY I’ve seen accompanied by the music from “Amazing Grace”.

You can view the video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnk0KjWxgMA

And if you need some inspiration for a Christmas Tree I Hope you enjoy the pictures of some of the most outstanding Christmas Trees around the world.

In Holland a xmas tree made out of plastic bottles in the city of Haifa, Israel. Because of a xmas tree shortage caused by forest fires. It was made up out of 5000+ bottles, collected by everybody in the city. LED lights were used in the tree to save energy, so it is safe to say that this tree is of the highest ecological level a xmas tree can get.

Pac Man xmas tress in Madrid, Spain. You can see a big Pac-man game projected on the sides of the xmas tress that you can find outside a shopping mall. This is one of the coolest xmas tress that you have ever seen. This tree features a fully-animated version of the classic arcade game, rendered across thousands of colored LEDs.

The Lisbon xmas tree is an artificial xmas tree erected annually in Lisbon, Portugal since 2004. From 2005, when it was an entrant in the Guinness World Records, the tree is called the Europe’s tallest xmas tree. The height of the tree varies every year and it was the highest in 2007 at 76 metres (249 ft).

Rio de Janeiro marks the start of the xmas season with the world’s first ever floating xmas tree measuring 85 metres. The 542 tonne structure, wrapped in 3.3 million light bulbs was the centrepiece of an eight minute fireworks show, which has become one of the city’s main tourist attraction.

Berlin, Germany created a giant xmas tree that is decorated with Swarovski crystals.  The tree, which measures around 20 meters tall, also features around
44, 000 different xmas decors.

The Pavilion Shopping Center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia has a white wire xmas tree. It looks gorgeous when light-up at night. To the already heavily populated shopping district, the newest addition.

A French-designed xmas tree is lighting up Dublin’s O’Connell street this year. The 60ft structure, which weights five tonnes and is composed of 100,000 bulbs of different sizes is an eco friendly substitute for the normal type of large evergreen xmas tree. The hi-tech tree arrive by boat, it took 3 days to put up at a site opposite the GPO.

The National Day of Romania was celebrated, besides the traditional way with the inauguration of the biggest xmas tree in Europe on the evening of December 1. The tree is decorated with some 2,300,000 lights. It is placed in the Union Square, Bucharest, at the moment of lighting the 76 meters high xmas tree, with 3 meters star and a base larger than 20 meters, weighting 200 tones.
There has been a National xmas tree every year since 1923. This years tree will be a new Colorado blue spruce. This living Colorado blue spruce is located on the Ellipse, just south of the White House.
Lobster Trap xmas tree in Kennebunkport Maine, USA. The annual Kennebunkport xmas Prelude ushers in the holidays as only Maine can. This picture captures the town’s unique holiday traditions.

To all a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Holidays!  Whatever your personal religious beliefs are, I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas with memories that you will cherish for many years to come!

Peace and Happiness,

Kathleen Stegman Ed.D, R.N. & Staff
