Look Like a Hollywood Star Every Day

It’s award season in Hollywood, and that means the pressure is on for stars to look their best on the red carpet. From designer dresses to the latest makeup and hair styles, companies frequently target stars to endorse their products on stage. This includes cosmetic procedures, which have been endorsed by both Madonna and Denise Richardson.

But these treatments are not reserved for stars only. You can look like a star every day too! Kick off your Oscars party with a fresh, youthful look that’s fit for the red carpet. If you want to turn back the clock and look 10 years younger just like many of the Hollywood stars have, there are a number of different non-surgical options to choose from: Radiesse, Sculptra, Restylane, Perlane, Artefill, and Selphyl.

These fillers are used to temporarily reverse the aging process. They can be used to refresh your appearance by smoothing away unwanted lines and bringing back the natural contours of your face. They can also be used to fill in deep, furrowing lines around the forehead, eyes and around the nose and mouth. Plus, we have some “Red Carpet Specials” on these treatments right now!

Check out this video on Sculptra, a favorite wrinkle filler of our clients.

A Prehistoric Explanation for Breast Augmentation

Did you know nearly 38,000 breast augmentation surgeries were performed by members of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons in 2009? The number may not surprise you, but an article in New You magazine suggests there may be a prehistoric explanation as to why many women seek breast augmentation through a variety of forms, from push-up bras to surgical enhancement.

  1. Large breasts signal youth and fertility as well as biological availability during ovulation, indicating that a female may make a good partner for reproduction.
  2. Breasts are also attributed with fostering relationships, not just reproduction.

The article goes on to discuss the importance, therefore, of the appearance of breasts that has developed over time and the extent to which they make women feel empowered and desired.

So what is the perfect size? Men are attracted to “symmetry and bust to-waist ratio rather than merely huge boobs,” says evolutionary psychologist Christopher Ryan in the article. Bottom line: One size doesn’t fit all. Go with a size that works for your frame and proportion.

Kathleen Answers Questions About Sculptra

Becky, a recent client and blog reader, left a comment this week asking about Sculptra. Kathleen Stegman, president of Midwest Medical Aesthetics, responded with some great information about the cosmetic procedure that we want to share with you:

Hi Kathleen,

Becky here. You have done some work on me in the past. You might remember me from being “The Gold Lady.” I am looking at Sculptra. I am wanting to know cost. I don’t want to be too full, but probably will need 2 to 3 vials. Sounds like it is over a couple treatments. Please explain procedure, costs, and anything else I might need to know.

I appreciate it!

Becky

Now for Kathleen’s response:

Hi Becky,

Of course I remember who you are! Let’s discuss Sculptra. Sculptra® is a fantastic choice for volumization. Each vial produces 6 cc’s of product. Product can be injected anywhere except for the lips. What this product does that is different from other injectables is that when you inject it, the product is not the “what you see is what you get” like all of the others. Rather, this product will slowly expand over time.

The product looks like cloudy water and is not thick when injected. The water will be absorbed by the body in about a week, and then the little crystals of the poly-L-lactic acid in the Sculptra® will integrate with your collagen and start to expand over time. You just get better and better as time passes. In my humble opinion, this is the best volumizer and the most cost-effective that anyone should start with when looking for volume restoration in the face. Many people require more than one visit (typically about 6 weeks after the first) to get maximum volumization.

Here is the cost break down: Each 6 cc vial is $650. Right now I have a special and a rebate from the manufacturer going on. Purchase two vials and get the 3rd 1/2 off. This means that for $1625 you will get 18 cc’s of product (and you will also get a rebate slip to send in to the manufacturer for $300). This makes your purchase of 3 vials (18 cc’s) ONLY $1325!

This is an unbelievable bargain! I have never seen any cost so low on this, and I don’t believe you ever will again. The special goes until March 31, 2011. Compared to other injectables like Radiesse, Perlane, Restylane, Artefill, this price is unbelievable for 18 cc’s. You would have to pay $6000 for 18 cc’s of Restylane-Lyft™ and that is even with specials of buy 2 and get one free for the 18cc!

So…you can see why this is unbelievable and you should take advantage of this!

Let me know if you hve any more questions or when we can get you in!

Kathleen

New Cosmetic Treatments Harness Power of LED Light

We’ve been talking a lot about LED light recently, and you may be wondering what exactly it has to do with looking your best. According to NASA research, certain frequencies of LED light have been shown to increase new tissue growth, synthesis of collagen, and post-injury and post-surgery healing time. In addition, LED light therapy, unlike laser resurfacing, is non-invasive and non-thermal.

Since this discovery, the benefits of LED light technology have been incorporated into many cosmetic treatments targeting problems such as:

  • wrinkles
  • redness
  • discolored teeth
  • signs of aging
  • acne

Midwest Medical Aesthetics in Leawood, Kan., offers many light therapy services such as:

  • at-home Deep Penetrating Light (DPL) Therapy Kit
  • at-home BriteWhite LED light professional teeth whitening system

Highlight Your Best Features with Permanent Makeup

Permanent makeup may sound like a drastic change, but you can choose how much and where to apply it for beautiful, subtle definition. Here are some areas you should consider highlighting with permanent makeup.

Eyebrows

Anyone who desires fullness or definition to their eyebrows will benefit from permanent eyebrows. From a few strokes to fill small areas to total brow recreation, your technician can give you the freedom of never using an eyebrow pencil again.

Eyeliner

From a soft, natural-looking enhancement to a more defined line – the choice is yours! Permanent eyeliner can be applied in many styles and colors. Whatever look you choose, you will wake up, shower, exercise, work, swim and go to bed always looking your best.

Lips

Lipliner can be applied to give more definition, correct uneven lips, or add fullness to the mouth. The procedure also helps prevent lipstick from bleeding and can minimize the appearance of wrinkles. Or forget lipstick altogether and add full lip color!

Full lip color can be applied in a natural hue or a more vivid one. Wear it alone or apply different shades of lipstick over your permanent lip color – you will find that the color lasts all day. An anti-viral medication will be required prior to all lip procedures.

What are you waiting for? Save $50 on permanent eyeliner, eyebrow color, and lip color at Midwest Medical Aesthetics now.

What Is Botox?

Botox Treatment

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that you’ve probably heard of Botox™ treatments.  Whether you know exactly what it does or not, chances are you know it exists and chances are you know it’s a non-surgical procedure that enhances the appearance of your face.

Truthfully, it’s everywhere now—women and men of all ages are seeing the need for it. Even our Hollywood stars are openly and avidly using it. So why it so popular? It’s simple: it’s FDA approved, it’s a ten minute procedure, it’s not surgery, it’s safe and most importantly it works!

Botox™ has the power to reverse the lines of aging that can revitalize your beautiful youthful appearance in just 10 minutes!

What is Botox™ and What is Botox™ used for?

Botoxis an injected liquid used to treat frown lines, squint and smile lines, nasal crunch lines, and horizontal forehead wrinkles.  It is also used in small amounts in a number of other areas on the face depending on the way your muscles of facial expression work. It can raise the outer part of the eyebrow if it is sagging, lift the corners of the mouth, and help to smooth out dimpled or cobblestoned chins.

Botox™ has been used to treat millions of patients medically and cosmetically for over 20 years. Botox™ is produced in a lab by a bacterium called “Clostridium botulinum”. It has been purified under very strict controlled conditions.  When injected into a small facial muscle, it doesn’t travel anywhere else in the body. It gradually wears off naturally over a 3-6 month period.

Does the injection hurt?

Botox™ is injected with a very small needle (like an acupuncture needle), so it causes very little pain upon injection. Botox™ does not cause irritation or inflammation. Occasionally, patients have complained that there is a mild stinging sensation.

Are there any people who should not receive Botox?

Botox™ should not be given to pregnant women, nursing mothers, or patients with neuromuscular diseases like myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton syndrome, AML (Lou Gehrig’s), or motor neuropathy should not use Botox.  Patients who are allergic to human albumin (different than an egg allergy) should not use Botox. It is not recommended in pregnancy or nursing because it has not been tested.

So there you have it. A quick guide to everything you need to know about Botox. If you are considering Botox™ injections simply respond to this email or give us a call at our office.
